Media Center

MISSION

Through direct instruction with students, collaboration with staff, and the offering of a wide variety of programs, services and resources, we will empower students to become critical and free thinkers, skillful researchers, and ethical users and creators of information.

The Media Center is the heart of the school.

The Deerwood Academy Media Center is dedicated to designing and maintaining a media program that supports, compliments, and expands the International Baccalaureate instructional program. The media center seeks to provide a learning environment that promotes inquiry, stimulates intellectual curiosity, encourages pleasure reading, and develops diverse interests for the enjoyment of life-long learning. Additionally, the Media Center will provide and promote instruction to prepare students to become independent users of libraries and information resources.

DEERWOOD MEDIA CENTER VISION:

Through collaboration, the Deerwood Media Program will produce digital and informational literate lifelong learners who are intrinsically passionate about learning through both print and digital plans and have the ability to translate their knowledge into various formats and apply their knowledge across the curriculum.

DEERWOOD MEDIA CENTER GOALS:

The media services program at Deerwood Academy will provide access to information (both print and digital) and ideas that are essential to the growth of the 21st century learner.  The media services technologist is transparent and aims to empower students and staff in order to continue their academic and professional journey to be effective lifelong learners who acquire inquiry based critical thinking skills. We are committed to the following:

  • ensuring that all students and staff have daily access to the media center facilities and resources;

  • providing guidance and services that will support instructional needs and personal reading interests;

  • empowering students to become effective users of information resources (print and digital);

  • inspiring others to develop an appreciation of literature and a love of reading.
